Mobile Games Fans Play Over 1 Million Games in Largest Mobile Games Tournament for Prizes Ever
InfoSpace Mobile and Blue Lava Wireless today announced the winners of the largest, cross-carrier mobile phone games tournament for prizes ever held in the U.S. During September and October, competitors in the 'Tetris(R) Tournament Mobile Championship' played more than 1 million games for the opportunity to win nearly $10,000 in prizes provided by InfoSpace partners Pyramat and other companies. The grand prize sweepstakes winner will travel to Hawaii to meet Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov.
InfoSpace Mobile hosted the massive mobile games event. The leader in the mobile multiplayer tournament game space, the company has hosted more than 10 million multiplayer tournament games for prizes to date in 2004, more than any other mobile games company. These tournaments have been available to subscribers on such wireless networks as Verizon, Alltel, Midwest Wireless, and Western Wireless.
"The success of this tournament shows that consumers want entertainment on their handsets, are willing to pay for it and will keep coming back for more to win prizes and sweepstakes," said Isaac Babbs, vice president of games for InfoSpace Mobile.
Nearly $10,000 in prizes are being handed out to championship and sweepstakes winners, including tournament grand champion Khamla Ye of Chico, California, who played more than 2,300 games of Tetris and Lisa Degiorgi of Wappingers Falls, New York who won the sweepstakes' grand prize of a trip to Hawaii to meet Tetris creator Alexey Pajitnov.
